Ricco for Teachers

Give your students a financial life to manage.

Ricco is a browser-based simulation where each student earns a salary, pays the bills, saves, invests and handles whatever the next month brings. One turn is one simulated month, and each month starts from the situation their last decisions created.

Try the free game through your teacher account. Purchase a teacher license when you're ready to bring your classes in.

What Students Practise

Money skills students practise
through their own decisions

Balancing income, expenses and spending

Five bills come due every month, each set to a spending level from Bare Minimum to Premium Lifestyle. Cutting back frees up cash but lowers health and happiness; spending more raises them.

Talk about How much monthly surplus is enough, and which comforts are worth a smaller one.

Building savings for unexpected costs

Car trouble, a medical bill or a home repair can arrive in any month and must be paid from cash, savings or by selling investments. An emergency buffer lets students cover these costs without disrupting the rest of their plan.

Talk about How many months of expenses to keep accessible, and what that means for money that could be invested.

Exploring investing and compounding

Surplus can go into an interest-earning savings account, bonds that lock money away for 1, 5 or 10 years, or an index fund that pays dividends and moves through simulated bull and bear markets.

Talk about Why the same monthly amount grows so differently in each place, and how it feels to stay invested through a downturn.

Weighing wellbeing against long-term goals

Health and happiness sit alongside cash and net worth. Offers such as a vacation or concert tickets cost money and raise both; turning them down lowers them. If either stays critically low for too long, the run ends.

Talk about How to make financial progress without neglecting wellbeing, and where each student draws that line.
Who It's For

From secondary school
to adult learning

  • Secondary and high-school students Economics, business, maths or life-skills classes where students learn by making decisions.
  • University students A first look at salary, rent and investing before those numbers are real.
  • Adult learners Community courses and workplace programmes practising personal finance without real money at stake.

Students should be comfortable reading short scenarios and working with money amounts and basic percentages. Teachers can introduce concepts such as interest, dividends and net worth as they arise, and adjust the discussion to their students' experience.

FAQ

Practical questions

Who is Ricco suitable for?

Secondary-school and high-school students, university students and adult learners. Students should be comfortable reading short scenarios and working with money amounts and basic percentages. Try the free game to see how it fits your learners.

What devices, internet access and accounts are needed?

A modern web browser on a laptop, tablet or phone, an internet connection, and a Ricco account created with an email address and password. Nothing to install. Our privacy policy covers account and parental-consent requirements.

Can I try it before purchasing?

Yes. Teacher accounts are free, and you can try the free game from your teacher dashboard. Classroom access, including full game access for your students, comes with the paid teacher license.

How do students join, and do they need to pay?

Share your class invitation link. Students open it, sign in or create a Ricco account, and join. While your license is active they have full game access through your class, with no separate purchase. A student can be in one class at a time.

How can Ricco fit into my lessons?

Students can return to the same simulation across lessons or continue independently between sessions. Each turn advances one simulated month, and progress saves automatically. You choose when to pause for discussion and which financial decisions to explore together.

What can I see and do in the dashboard?

Each class shows its student count and invitation link. Inside a class you see who has joined, who has started playing, and each student's profession, game month, net worth and last activity. You can copy the invitation link, edit the class, and remove students.

What happens when the license expires?

Your classes, invitation links and rosters stay in place. Students keep their saved games but return to the free game, and the invitation link stops accepting new students until you renew. Renewing early adds 12 months to the time you have left; renewing after expiry starts 12 months from the day you pay.
